The ASUW Student Senate

The Associated Students of the University of Washington (ASUW) Student Senate, the heart of undergraduate governance, was stuck using a clunky voting system from the late 1990s. It was outdated, hard to use, and a nightmare to maintain—definitely overdue for a refresh. That’s where Interlock Solutions came in. We partnered with designer Alan Luder to build them a modern, sleek system that managed everything from Senator registrations and legislation submissions to real-time voting and record-keeping. The new system streamlined operations, allowing the Senate to focus on making impactful decisions and driving real change.

Data Migration

As a public institution, the ASUW Student Senate is legally required to maintain records of all legislation, Senators, and voting history. The previous system, in place since 1999, used a proprietary database and outdated data structure. A key challenge in modernizing was migrating the vast amount of valuable data. This required manual data handling and integrity checks to ensure everything transferred smoothly. In the end, all records were successfully imported and are now accessible to the public.

I am so impressed (but not all that surprised because I know how good you are) that we are coming to the end of this project. Good work, Interlock Solutions! What a complicated and IMPORTANT system you’ve built. Thank you!
